Whenever people ask me what I do as an independent college counselor, I offer them an analogy: I always think of higher education as an exciting journey, and see the entire application process as entering foreign territory. When you visit a foreign country for the first time, you take a guidebook with you, or you join a guided tour. Working with a college counselor is basically the same principle. The college counselor will be the student’s guide as he charts his or her way towards college.
